In a major earthquake or storm, help from outside may take days to arrive. Your Block Captain is the trained neighbor who checks on your street first.

Block Captains are volunteers from your own neighborhood. After a disaster they check that neighbors are safe, note who needs help, and pass that picture by two-way radio to a community communication center, which relays it on to Jefferson County. They are not first responders — they are the first people to know whether your street is all right.
Port Ludlow is organised into 37 response neighborhoods, each divided into Response Areas of roughly 10 to 20 homes.
Several Response Areas have nobody covering them. If you would consider it, tell us below — there is no obligation, and the orientation video is public so you can see exactly what the job involves before you decide.
